The wall mounted glass work was created in response the dynamic view from the adjacent window of Millennium Park with the band shell designed by Frank Gehry, Cloud Gate (the Bean) by the British/Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor and Jaume Plensa’s five story Crown Fountain made of glass. In addition, the glass sculpture for the Grosch’s was also to reflect their buoyant personalities. The work is intended to visually represent the dynamic appearance of fireworks to embody the client’s ebullient nature as well as the rich artistic work seen from the window of the room on the 24th floor.
The work is composed of prismatic and dichroic glass shards laminated to the base of a 2” thick base of cast glass with a reflective coating on the back surface to further animate the glass elements.
