St Patrick’s

The themes of the windows were developed from discussions with the committee and the clergy which were expressed in the windows designed by Kenneth von Roenn with his long time collaborator, Donald Carlos Thomas.

The two windows flanking the altar express the themes of the Resurrection of Christ on the left and His Ascension into heaven on the right. The butterfly form is introduced in partial form in the Resurrection and more fully developed in the Ascension window expressing the belief that Christ’s spirit became one with the heavens.

The Reservation chapel window primary theme was focused on the Passion of Christ in the consecration of bread and wine with expressive forms and colors associated with anguish and grief as reminders of Christ’s sacrifice for us. The clear glass windows opening into the chapel introduce the cloth like element floating in front of the windows as a reference to the Shroud of Turin that covered Christ at the moment of this Resurrection, creating the impression of thecrucified Christ on the fabric. This fabric element is further incorporated in the two chapel windows.

It was the intent of the committee and the designers that these work ‘speak’ to not just our generation but those to come with messages that challenge as much as encourage reflection.
