In collaboration with project designer Sam D’Amico, Kenneth von Roenn created more than 100 glass fins, each measuring 1′-6″ by 15′, to soften the rigid lines of the building’s curtainwall. These custom glass fins feature layers of dichroic film laminated between low-iron tempered glass, introducing vibrant, shifting colors to three elevations of the building.
Horizontal sun screens were also integrated, featuring 2’-6” square panels with laminated dichroic glass in multiple colors. As sunlight moves across the facade, the elements reflect a spectrum of light both inside and outside the hospital. The interior spaces, including patient rooms, are bathed in colorful patterns throughout the day, making this project a leading example of color-integrated architectural glass design in healthcare environments.
